I always enjoy running across a quiet bar that serves good bar food. Tonight's stroll across the river brought me to another one of this fine species: Slow Bar, which just opened at 533 SE Grand Avenue in the former Caswell's restaurant space. I enjoyed the half-pound hamburger, made with Painted Hills ground beef, and the sweet potato fries that came on the side. (You can have russet fries instead, but why?). The menu has a certain austere elegance at first glance, but laughs at itself in the small print: one of the items shyly mentions that it's covered with "melted stinky cheese." Give Slow Bar a try.
