I've been bemused, as many others have, by the advertisements being run against Measure 50 (the tobacco tax) that feature concerned suburban voices saying that it amends the constitution (Oh horror!) and can't be changed without another election (Oh shock!).
It occurred to me that the pro-50 campaign should reply with a message along these lines. "Yes, Measure 50 amends the constitution. And yes, it will take a vote of the people to change it -- instead of merely a vote of our state legislators to whom the tobacco industry funnels campaign money. Who would you rather have decide our tax and health policy: your friends and neighbors or R.J. Reynolds?"
